Halifax wears its history lightly, a friendly harbour town of pubs, fog, and sea air. But after dark, the old city tells a different story. Meet your guide as dusk settles over the historic Grand Parade and set off on foot through a downtown shaped by shipwrecks, the Titanic, and the largest man-made explosion the world had seen before the atomic bomb, and by the restless spirits they left behind.
Over the next 90 minutes, you'll wind gently downhill toward the waterfront, stopping at the city's most haunted corners. You'll stand beneath a church window where a man's face is said to have been burned into the glass by the 1917 Halifax Explosion. You'll hear why the staff of one elegant restaurant — once the morgue that received the dead of both the Titanic and the Explosion, never close up alone. You'll look into a 270-year-old cemetery where 12,000 lie beneath just 1,300 stones, and meet the ghost of Oscar Wilde, still said to pace a Victorian inn.
This isn't cheap jump-scares, it's real storytelling, rooted in genuine Nova Scotian folklore and true events. Some tales are pure legend; some have witnesses. We'll tell you which, and let you decide.
Easy, mostly level walking with one gentle descent to the waterfront; comfortable shoes recommended. Come for the chills, stay for the history, and mind who's behind you on the walk home
